peer pressure

I’m not exactly sure where it all began, but for quite some time now I have had an aversion to trendy things. When my teeny bopper friends were in love with Justin Timberlake, I opted to crush on JC Chasez. When everybody was reading Harry Potter, I decided it was safe to start reading Nicholas Sparks. When American Idol comes on TV, I’m the first to leave the room.
So needless to say, with blogging being the “it” thing to do, I couldn’t possibly join in. Not only is blogging too trendy, but I also view it as being a little more dangerous than people would like to admit.

I do have to admit, though, I love to blog surf. I like reading other people’s gripes, getting ideas of yummy food to make, and seeing what old friends have been up to. However, I think that people need to be much more careful with the information that they put online. For example, most of my high school friends are married with anywhere from 1-4 kids, and many of them have blogs. However many of these blogs post really personal information like kids names, after school activities, home towns, etc. It is way too easy for some crazy person out there to get this information, go to their hometowns and use the information to pretend to be a family friend and lure in the kids. That is why I’m all for making blogs private. That way, you are able to control who is seeing this information. After all, most of these blogs are set up so that grandma can see pictures of little Timmy NOT to welcome the world into your living room.

So why am I starting a blog, you ask? Peer pressure. Everyone is doing it. It seems so fun. Nothing bad is going to happen. You can always quit. These are the words swirling around in my head. I think this will make it easier to keep family and friends updated on the happenings of our lives. Not to mention the fact that it will be one more distraction for me during classes. So after finally giving in to the temptation, I had to decide which blogging service I would use. Wordpress, Tumblr, Blogger... so many choices. I finally settled on building the blog in iweb and then trying to transfer it to, but it just became overly complicated. So then I thought that I should just go with what Luis uses: tumblr. But even that became a hassle when I couldn't figure out how to easily do what I wanted to do. Which then brought me back to blogger because it was simple enough to begin with (and besides I can always move my blog somewhere else later). So for the time being, this is the home to my thoughts.
