girl scout cookies

I have to follow up yesterday's post with a post about something I love: Girl Scout Cookies! I know that it is a huge hassle/responsibility for each individual girl scout's family to deal with selling cookies. It takes a lot of work to go door-to-door getting orders, and then returning a few weeks later to deliver the cookies and collect the money. But it would be nice if they were sold twice a year instead of just once. That way, I wouldn't feel the need to stockpile them (this method never works anyway because if the cookies are sitting in the pantry, there is no way I'm going to "save" them for later). P.S. I'm excited to try the new dulce de leche cookies (I don't know if they're actually new, but they're new to me).

Rant #2: Why are girl scouts not promoted in church the way boy scouts are? I've always wondered this and have never been given a real answer. People have said that there are other programs for girls like Young Women's, but there is Young Men's for the guys in addition to scouts. I'm assuming that the "Activity Days" program was started for girls 8-12 because they needed something to offset the fact that boys of that age are already involved in scouts. But why not have the girls be a part of a national organization with badges and camps just like the boys? And don't try to give me the excuse that all boys need to learn the life skills that boy scouts teaches because if they are really "life skills" then girls should learn them too. Not to mention the fact that the church is international and there is no scouting program in most other countries. I'm not necessarily advocating for having all of the girls join girl scouts. I think that these programs should just be kept completely separate from church. If parents want their boys involved with scouting, then they should volunteer to help organize the events just like parents with girls in girl scouts have to be the ones to step up to help.

Next rant: Why are the chocolate/caramel/coconut cookies called Samoas? Samoas are my favorite. They have been my favorite ever since I was an 8-year-old girl scout. But are they called Samoas because of the coconut? I'm pretty sure that Samoans do not use coconut in everything they cook. This same concept applies with pineapple. People will throw some pineapple on a pizza or chicken and call it "Hawaiian." I'm not sure why they do this because Hawaiians do not put pineapple on everything they cook. In fact, ham & pineapple pizza is not called "Hawaiian pizza" in Hawaii. They merely call it a ham & pineapple pizza.
