spencerarium

I spent the majority of the day yesterday putting together a massive game of Cranium for Luis' best friend's (Spencer) birthday. Since we used his birthday gathering last year as a engagement announcement party, we felt that we absolutely needed to do something special for him. Coming up with an idea for this party was really, really hard because the older we get, the more boring everyone seems to get. The fun kind-of off the wall things that we used to do are no longer an option because people just don't want to get out of their comfort zone. This has really been bothering me lately, but that is a whole different story for a whole different day.

So we had been bouncing ideas around for a couple of weeks. I would come up with something, and Luis would find a way to show me how it would never work. My favorite idea was to drive down to St. George for In-n-Out and a concert, but Spencer was going to be working so that was not possible. Eventually we settled on going to a piano bar up in Salt Lake. I was pretty excited for this idea because I have heard this place was really great. But then at the last minute we ended up changing this plan because most of Spencer's friends were not going to be able to come. So then after multiple disagreements and "conferences" we finally came up with the idea of putting together a game of Cranium. For any who may not know, Cranium is a board game that mixes a bunch of different games like pictionary, trivial pursuit, charades, etc. But all of our questions had to be centered around Spencer and the things that he enjoys doing. I think that all in all, the game ended up working really well. I had to miss dinner with the group, but I was able to finish putting together the entire game which included a massive game board (made out of a tri-fold display board), homemade play-doh, and power point slides.

So now on to the next birthday... ugh. I hate that we end up getting so birthday'd out. I think that about 3 out of 4 people in our little group of friends have birthdays in the March-May season. Mine is basically the last and by the time we get there I just want to crawl into a hole and be left alone.
