staying true to my roots

There is a Brazilian saying that basically insinuates that you can't get married until you've learned to make beans. Although my family had beans somewhat regularly while I was growing up, it definitely was not everyday. Not even every week. But even if my mom had been making it all the time, cooking was just not my thing when I was a kid. So I didn't bother to learn. Well this past week, all of the sudden, I started craving some good homemade black beans. So I searched for recipes online and found one that seemed simple to make. Although I added too much water and they didn't turn out all that great, eating those beans over white rice hit the spot. I added bacon and sausage to them and then had a couple of eggs over easy on the side. The only things that could have made this better would have been some bananas and collard greens. Oh well, such is life. But there will definitely be a next time. And next time, it will be to die for.
