Today was my last day of work. When I got this job at the end of Fall semester last year, I had no idea I would wind up staying there for 8 months. I have really enjoyed the time I have spent at this job. I was able to work with some great people who have become really good friends. I worked for 2 attorneys who were wonderful. They would give me worthwhile assignments to work on independently while always leaving the door open for any questions I might have. I remember being so scared when I turned in my first memo but then feeling total relief when my boss told me I had done a good job. I originally thought that I would only work there part time during winter semester, but when things didn't work out for me to go anywhere else to work for the summer, they offered for me to stay with them on a full-time basis. It was great to be able to be doing legal work AND be paid for my time.
However, as most good things, this job needed to come to an end. I didn't see myself staying with the company on a long-term basis. And the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to pursue immigration law. I was able to get an externship with a local immigration firm and it worked out better for me to quit working at the company and just keep my on-campus job for the school year. While I am excited for this new chapter of my life, I am also a little sad at the thought of leaving behind all of the good friends I have made in this last little while.
As I went through the stacks of papers on my desk today, I wanted to be able to listen to something different from what was already on my shuffle. I thought that an audio book would be a good option (a couple of the girls I work with have been raving about them). So I did a little searching online and came across librivox.org. This could quite possibly become my greatest discovery of the year (right now librivox and pandora are tied for the #1 position). I was able to listen to most of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as I cleaned things up and got ready to go. My only complaint is that each chapter of the book is narrated by a different person and there was one particular reader that just went a little too slow for my taste. But other than that, it was great!
