surfing

Usually when someone hears that I'm "from" Hawaii, one of the firsts things they ask me is whether I surf. I usually answer this question by saying that I've tried it once and although I had a lot of fun, I had no upper body strength and couldn't paddle hard enough to catch the waves myself (which meant that I had to have the surf instructor push me into the wave... but that is a whole different story). Recently, however, I have taken up surfing like nobody's business, blog surfing that is. For some reason I am practically obsessed with checking out people's blogs. Is that creepy? I don't know, but I usually start at the blog of someone I know, and then from there I go to blogs of people they know, and then it just kind of snowballs. I love finding all sorts of new things like the 365 days of crock pot cooking blog, or the how to clip coupons effectively blog and of course I love coming across blogs of people I knew as a child and seeing how much they have changed (or haven't changed in some instances).

One thing that has amazed me is that it seems like every stay at home mom (they apparently call themselves sahms) is an amateur photographer. Everywhere you look, there are a bazillion (and, yes, that is a technical term) photos of children and babies. Some of the pictures are good, others not so good. And if you're not the type of person to ever take pictures of your children, maybe you should pull out the trusty old camera right now and take a random picture of two. Trust me, when the kid turns 25 and gets married and asks you for childhood pictures for his/her slide show, you'll thank me. I say this from personal experience. There are only about 5 pictures of me as an infant in existence today. However, my little sister has a gajillion (another technical term). Am I jealous? YES!!! Is there anything I can do about it? No :( Note to self: acquire photography skills and a good camera in the next 5 years.
