for profit

I have a problem with people who want to make a profit out of nothing. It is one thing for someone to own a business, hire people to work for them, and then collect the profits because the employees are being PAID for their work. It is a completely different situation for a professor (who is already being paid to teach a class) to then condition a student's grade on how well they write a new edition of his book and then try to make it seem like the student is being "rewarded" through the experience. I'm not looking to make a profit, but the least that could be done would be for the proceeds of such a book to be donated to some sort of charitable organization.

P.S. I find it humorous that professors think that the reason enrollment is down in their class is that there similar classes offered by other professors. The truth is that people avoid taking classes from professors who are so staunchly biased that their opinions are the only thing that counts and anyone who says otherwise will be penalized in their grade (and yes, a professor absolutely has that power when he is the person who determines what is considered to be "good" class participation and "good" papers).

P.P.S. A gray suit jacket does not magically transform itself into a sports coat when worn with brown pants.
