mind games

My brain does interesting things sometimes when I'm thinking. Whenever I look outside, I always recite what the weather is like in French in my head. So when it is cold, my head always thinks, "Il fait froid." Also when someone asks me a question that I don't know the answer to, my brain usually will think "Je ne sais pas" but I will verbally say "I don't know."

Another weird thing I've been doing lately is thinking in a British accent. I've been watching a British show called Supersize vs. Superskinny (a really interesting show that forces extremely overweight and underweight people to switch meals for five days). So for the past couple of days, every thought that crosses my mind has been in a British accent. But when I open my mouth to speak, it never comes out as a British accent.

I don't know how my brain works, but I think maybe the ability to be thinking one thing and say another comes from having learned a 2nd language as a child. Every since I was about 7 or 8-years-old I have been able to go back and forth between the two languages without ever getting confused. I could be speaking with a friend in English, turn to one of my parents and speak Portuguese, and then go back to the friend speaking in English without confusing which language belongs to which person.
